Playground

Another day in the Israeli theater of the absurd.

A man enters a toddler play area with an M16 and proceeds to leave it on the floor unattended (in another room), while he plays with his child.

I try to explain to the manager of the place and the other parents that this is dangerous, but they don’t seem to understand and exchange looks that read, “Who is this crazy woman? What is she going on about?” They say he most certainly has a license. I ask if they’ve checked his license (they don’t know him, there’s no security guard at the entrance). I ask if they know how many mass shootings have been carried out by people with gun licenses and whether they’re aware of the studies and numbers of victims of gun accidents in Israel, involving guns kept in homes.

They stare at me aghast. It’s pretty easy to see they doubt my mental health. I leave.
